Disney World Toy Story Mania is one of the newer rides, having opened May 2008 in Disney's Hollywood Studios (MGM). Bright and colorful, this ride is a sure hit with the under 10 crowd. If the kids loved Buzz Lightyear's Ranger Spin in Magic Kingdom, they'll love this one even more. This ride features carnival style games like throwing pies (virtual, of course) target shooting at the saloon, breaking virtual dishes, and a ring toss.
Since this is a new ride, lines are very long. Be sure to head to this one when you first enter Hollywood Studios and grab a FastPass. Fastpasses for this ride usually run out for the day by 11am, so be sure to get in ahead of the crowd.
Check out this video below to see what it's like inside the Toy Story Mania. Even though the video does a nice job recreating the experience, there is nothing like being their experiencing all the special effects.
Be sure to check out the age recommendations below.
Ages 3-6- Even though the younger ones in this age group may not be as familiar with Toy Story characters, the fun, carnival type atmosphere is really exciting. These games can be adjusted for ability, so even these little ones can enjoy competing against mom, dad, and older siblings.
Ages 6-10- Most kids this age grew up with Toy Story, so they are very familiar with the characters. The younger ones will get excited to see Woody and the gang, while the older kids enjoy the video game-style games. The nine and ten year olds may claim that Toy Story is "too baby-ish" for them, but they'll come out with a totally different opinion. Where else can they throw pies and break dishes, and get away with it!
Ages 11 and up- Adults enjoy this ride if they have kids 10 and under. It's fun for the kids to compete against mom or dad, and creates good interactive fun. Kids 11 and up will be bored by this one. One parent can take the older kids to Rock-N-Roller Coaster/Tower of Terror, while the younger ones ride Toy Story.
