The Maelstrom Epcot ride is located in the Norway Pavilion in World Showcase. The Norway Epcot attraction is a don't miss if you're heading to the World Showcase. There aren't many rides in the World Showcase, so you'll have to get your "fix" here.
The ride takes you over tumultuous waters in your Viking ship, as you maneuver past larger than life trolls. The trolls aren't too happy that you're visiting their territory, and promptly shout "Go back" - as your Viking ship plunges backwards down a mild hill. You'll also encounter a polar bear and a star-filled Norwegian night sky.
The Maelstrom Epcot ride disembarks in a Norwegian fishing village. It makes you feel like you really are in a Norwegian village. I think this is one of the most overlooked areas in World Showcase- definitely one of our family favorites. The attraction ends with a movie about the different aspects of Norwegian culture, business, and recreation. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a little time away from the parks. The movie is a bit outdated (circa 80's), but still very enjoyable. The movie is one of my husband's favorite attractions, so he might be sad if they ever updated it!

Ages 3-6- Kids ages 3-5 may find this ride a bit unnerving. Not because of the boat ride or mild hill, but because of the life-size trolls (with beady eyes) popping out of nowhere- as well as the darkness itself. You may want to avoid this if your child would be bothered by the dark or monsters. Most 6 year olds should enjoy this ride and see the trolls only as a little "spooky."
Ages 7-11- All kids in the age group will find this to be a lot of fun. The older ones may complain that it's not scary enough for them, but this ride is different enough to keep their interest.
Ages 12 and up- Teens may not rank this highly on their lists (if they're thrill seekers), but with so few rides in World Showcase, this will probably make their afternoon! Adults really enjoy the Maelstrom Epcot ride itself, but more so for the authentic Norwegian fishing village and movie following.
