The Space Mountain ride is one of the most popular Disney World rides. Space Mountain is essentially a futuristic version of a roller coaster. Except for the initial flashing purple and green lights at the beginning, most of the ride is in the dark. Impossible to tell where the next turn is, the anticipation is exhilarating! While it does not have any steep hills, the speed of the ride is what is noteworthy. As a matter of fact, many kids and adults get right back in line for another go!
Check out this video below to see what it's like inside Space Mountain. It is a video recreation of the ride and not actual footage, since all videos were way to dark to get a good feel for the ride. Even though the video does a nice job recreating the experience, there is nothing like being there experiencing all the special effects.
Be sure to check out the age recommendations below.
Under 8- For most kids, it's not even an option since there is a 44 inch height requirement. Even though my 7 year old meets the height requirement, it would scare the daylights out of him!
Ages 8-11- Most kids in the age group love this ride. If you have an 8 year old that is particularly sensitive, use caution on the ride. Generally, if they have done roller coasters in the past (even mild ones), this should be right up their alley.
Ages 12 and up- Pre-teens and teens can be seen riding, getting back in line, riding again...and again! This is a must seen for the 12 and up crowd.
